Offering

We serve clients from the agro business industry as well as from academic research groups, alone or grouped in consortium.

AELRED can bring forward its expertise to projects dedicated to public calls (ANR, Investissement d’Avenir, regional and European projects for instance), as a service provider or as a partner in the research project.

Offer 1: creation and development of PMM platforms “ready to use” for all species. A platform is composed of X mutated seed bags and of a set of plates containing the DNA extracted from a sample of these X seed bags (X ranging from 1000 to 10000 or beyond, depending  the species and the client’s requirement).
Offer 2:reverse genetic mutant screening on client’s platforms.
Offer 3: reverse genetic mutant screening on hosted platforms or SNP screening on collections of natural accessions.

Relevant to this, AELRED maintains a licenced copy of the the INRA/Genopante-Valor RapTILL platform (rapeseed) and can answer to any screening needs on this platform. RAPTILL comprises 1014 lines of rapeseed cv. Tanto with a mutation rate of 1/20 Kb.

Key principles of AELRED’s offering

Freedom of use for the client:
we own a license from INRA and GENOPLANTE-VALOR.

No IP claims, no fee requested by AELRED on the results: the client is the owner of the created platform (offer 1), of the screening results from this platform (offers 2 and 3). If the platform does not belong to the client (offer 3) and the client wants to use in a breeding program a specific screened mutant, the client contracts a license directly to the owner of the mutant collection.

Quality Management System (QMS): pre-audited. We target to get our ISO 9001-2008 certification by 2012.

Crédit d'Impôt Recherche: AELRED is registered to perform R&D work qualifying for CIR for years 2010 and 2011. Extension for 2012 and following years is currently under review.  Companies applying for CIR shall have their R&D facilities located in France.

miscanthus

Products

AELRED also leads by itself an ambitious crop improvement program for miscanthus.

Miscanthus is a rhizomatous perennial grass originating from Asia. This grass stands as the most promising crop for biomass production under our climates. When established, a field of miscanthus produces regularly for more than ten years from 10 to 20 tons dry weight/ha/year, a superior yield comparing to forestry or a classical crop, set in similar conditions. Miscanthus culture needs few or even no input of chemical fertilizer or pesticide and can be cropped on marginal or polluted land. Thus miscanthus is especially well suited to an eco-friendly production scheme, and does not compete with food crops (sustainable agriculture).

Thanks to its PMM-derivate TRI-MISC™ technology, AELRED develops new miscanthus varieties with reduced establishment costs, thus breaking one of the hurdles limiting the development of this crop.

Boosted by environmental policies of the UE countries, the cultivated non-food biomass market is vowed to grow in order to meet the expected needs for biofuels, biomaterials, bioplastics and green chemistry derivatives, without impacting food production : AELRED aims to be a major contributor to the development of this market for biomass-dedicated crops.
